Quick tip · Windows

Make text easier to read without changing everything else

If the words on your Windows screen are too small but the pictures and app windows look fine, change the text size first. You do not have to enlarge everything on the display.

Change only the text size

  1. Open Start and select Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Select Text size.
  4. Move the slider until the sample text is comfortable to read.
  5. Select Apply.

This changes text in places such as menus, title bars, and icon labels while leaving images and many other screen elements at their current size.

If the whole interface is too small

Open Settings, System, then Display and look for Scale. Scaling enlarges text, apps, buttons, and other interface elements together. Try a recommended option before choosing a custom value.

For something you only need to inspect briefly

Press the Windows key and Plus to open Magnifier. Press Windows and Minus to zoom back out, or Windows and Escape to close it. This is useful for a small dialog or detail you do not need enlarged all day.
